Happy July 4th holiday!

A week after the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, the effects of the decision on women’s healthcare have become more apparent. Texas, whose trigger laws went into full effect after the decision, has one of the strictest abortion laws in the country, and its nurses and physicians are worried. Medical situations unrelated to a woman’s choice to end a pregnancy, such as ectopic pregnancies (i.e., when a fertilized egg begins to grow outside of the uterus) and prescriptions for medications that could be feasibly used for an abortion, now sit in a gray area between a medical professional’s opinion and the law on that particular state's books.

Constitutional lawyers, women’s rights activists, and some companies have become vocal about the repeal of a 50-year-old precedent. Frustrated young people bemoan the Democratic party for doing nothing to codify Roe and then using the event as a fundraising plea. Rather than taking to the streets, some activists are calling for an all-out “No Buy July”. The sentiment goes something like this: “they” don’t care about our signs or slogans, so mess up the economy.

Meanwhile, here's what we covered this week on the Daily Stack:
